Why does "ease of folding" that should be convenient become a burden?
Around 2019, the number of umbrellas boasting "neat folding" and "quick folding" began to increase. I was impressed by their convenience. However, at the same time, I was convinced that this did not fit with Amvel's philosophy.
This is because most of them use a method of attaching PET panels to fabric, which inevitably makes them heavy and thick when folded. For us, whose strengths lie in being lightweight and slim, there was no option to compromise on portability.

If you want something to be easy to fold, it becomes heavy, but if you want it to be light, it takes more effort to fold. To resolve this contradiction, I remembered the pleated fabric I had worked on in my previous job, which uses shape-memory yarn. I wanted to revive that technique, which creates beautiful, even creases.
However, the yarn was no longer available. Unable to give up, they steadily developed their own route. They spent a long time developing the technology, which was once used for umbrellas, into a high-performance fabric that can be used in both rain and shine, an essential part of today's harsh summers.
Japan's first evidence-based "surprising ease of adjustment"
The completed " Second-Speed Pleats " are made by heat-treating a special core-sheath fiber that memorizes the creases. The fabric is only 0.13mm thick, making it overwhelmingly lighter and slimmer than panel-type pleats.
We conducted a test that showed that 100% pleat retention was maintained even after 500 opening and closing cycles. We are probably the first in Japan to objectively prove the "ease of folding" using evidence.
