Throw away the common belief that "foldable umbrellas are small" and enjoy the security of a long umbrella in your pocket.
A pile of plastic umbrellas and the discomfort of wet shoulders.
Having worked with umbrellas for over 30 years, there was a common sight I desperately wanted to eliminate. It was the piles of plastic umbrellas that grow with each rain, and the sight of people using small umbrellas, prepared to get wet because "folding umbrellas are unreliable." For business people who carry a lot of luggage, or larger people, conventional folding umbrellas were only used as "emergency evacuations." Is it possible to create an umbrella that eliminates the stress of getting your shoulders or bag wet, and is so slim you'll forget you're carrying it? This question was the starting point for the development of the ALTERNA SLIM60 .
The challenge of achieving the ultimate thinness of 35mm
Our goal was to create an umbrella that is just 35mm thick when stored, while boasting a large 107cm diameter when opened. This is actually a very contradictory and challenging task when it comes to umbrella construction. The larger the umbrella, the thicker the ribs, naturally, and the more bulky it becomes when folded. To solve this dilemma, we completely redesigned the frame structure. Our unique "slim frame" design offsets the ribs by millimeters to prevent overlapping when folded. This reduces the "wasteful thickness" found in typical umbrellas to nearly zero. The umbrella easily fits easily into the gaps in your bag or pocket, and even after 30 years of making umbrellas, I'm proud to say that this represents the pinnacle of functional beauty.
Ultra-thin 0.05mm fabric and aircraft-quality carbon
Another key factor contributing to this slim design is the fabric and rib materials. The fabric is made of an ultra-thin, just 0.05mm thick material, woven with ultra-fine 15-denier yarn, the same material used in stockings. However, thinness alone is not enough. A special polyurethane coating on the underside achieves a water resistance rating of 2,480mm and UV protection of over 95%. Furthermore, the tips of the ribs are made of lightweight, strong carbon fiber, the same material used in aircraft. While weighing just 162g, this product is robust enough to withstand winds of up to 15m/s. Rather than simply pursuing high specs, this product is designed to be a trusted tool for long-term use.
Turning rainy days from "compromise" to "freedom"
No compromises were made even in the smallest details. User comfort was our top priority, with silicone washers sandwiched between the connectors to prevent water seepage even in heavy rain, and nail guards to protect your fingers. "Slim yet reliable." With this umbrella in hand, rainy days will change from "a day of endurance" to "a day spent in style." There's no need to compromise when choosing an umbrella. Experience the peace of mind of a long umbrella and the freedom to carry it anywhere. AMVEL will continue to strive to make your daily life more comfortable.
