The lightness that makes you forget you're holding it was born from the challenge of changing the conventional wisdom about umbrellas.
Does that 1g weight take away from your everyday comfort?
The saying goes, "There is no need to worry if you are prepared," but carrying a folding umbrella in case of a sudden downpour can actually be a burden on a daily basis. Everyone has probably had the experience of regretting bringing an umbrella today, as it weighs heavily in their bag.
I have been focusing on umbrellas for over 30 years, and I have always wanted to use the power of technology to fundamentally solve the complaints that many users have about umbrellas - that they are heavy, cumbersome, and bulky. My goal was to create an umbrella that is so light it feels like air, so light you'll forget you're even holding it.
Challenging the conventional wisdom that "lightweight products break"
The biggest obstacle in the development process was the common belief that "light umbrellas break easily." It would be easy to simply make the parts thinner to make it lighter, but that would not be considered professional work.
So we decided to update the material itself. We chose carbon fiber, a material also used in the aerospace industry and aircraft. This material is about one-quarter the weight of steel but 10 times stronger, and we used it lavishly for the main ribs. At first, some people said, "There's no way an umbrella, an everyday item, will sell if we use such an expensive material," but this was the only option to achieve the ultimate balance of lightness and strength.
Aviation-grade materials and objective evidence
In addition to the highly functional carbon fiber, the umbrella is made of an ultra-lightweight 15-denier ripstop fabric woven with extremely fine threads, similar to those used in stockings, resulting in an astonishingly light umbrella weighing just 72g, including the umbrella pouch.
Additionally, to dispel concerns that "lightness makes it weak," we focused on objective evidence. We conducted wind resistance tests at a wind speed of 15 m/s, proving that the fabric is flexible and supple enough to resist breaking even in strong winds. Furthermore, we made no compromises even in the smallest details, such as the fabric that comes into contact with the skin being OEKO-TEX® certified, the world's highest safety standard, and being treated with an environmentally friendly PFOA-free water-repellent finish.
Free yourself from the stress of carrying an umbrella
The pentagon72 is not just rain gear. It is a gadget that will free your movement and make your daily life lighter. If you keep it in the corner of your bag, you can head out into the city lightly without worrying about rain forecasts.
"Thanks to this umbrella, rainy days are no longer a burden." To hear this comment, we will continue to pour our passion into reducing the weight by even 1g and improving the structure by even 1mm. We hope you will experience this amazing lightness in your daily life.
