A challenge to reach new limits, responding sincerely to user expectations
When we released our previous model, the "pentagon72," we received a great response along with passionate expectations that "Amvel can go even further." It was the passion to respond sincerely to those feelings that drove me. The first thing I tackled was pushing the limits of the fabric even further. We moved beyond the existing ultra-thin standard of 15 denier and adopted 10-denier ultra-fine fibers that are light as a feather and even more delicate. Maintaining high water repellency and strength while keeping this level of thinness was an incredibly difficult task, but by thoroughly reviewing our material selection from the ground up, we pursued the ideal of lightness.
Thorough functional beauty that balances lightness and strength
Eliminating the worry that "light umbrellas break easily in the wind" is a testament to our integrity in craftsmanship. We changed the shape of the shaft from the standard round to an "octagonal" shape, which is resistant to external impact, dramatically increasing structural strength. Furthermore, we used carbon fiber—a material also used in aircraft—for the ribs. As a result, we achieved both a weight of "67g," lighter than a convenience store rice ball, and the toughness to withstand wind speeds of 15m/s. This challenge has garnered attention from media outlets like Nikkei Business and the Asahi Shimbun, and it is now even included in the Matsuya Ginza Design Collection.
