However, the conventional wisdom has been that the more functional an umbrella is, the thicker the fabric becomes, the heavier it becomes, and the more difficult it becomes to fold. On the other hand, umbrellas that pursue lightness are vulnerable to wind and there is always the worry that they will break easily. Why did we "deliberately" make the structure complex?
The Pentagon series of umbrellas uses a "manual opening" type with few parts to achieve the ultimate in lightness. However, for the HEATBLOCK Pentagon, we deliberately chose an "easy opening" type, which has a more complex structure and is heavier. The reason for this lies in our sincerity in manufacturing. Blackout fabric is thicker than that used for umbrellas, which places a much greater strain on the ribs and stitching. If we ignored quality and ease of use and only pursued the specifications, we could have made something lighter. However, this structure was essential to achieve both the durability required for a parasol and the smooth folding feel.
The invisible details: the reliability of solid rivets
Furthermore, we are passionate about the details. Usually, hollow "grommets" are used to connect the ribs to the support ribs to reduce weight, but we have chosen to use high-strength "solid rivets." This is a small innovation that may not be noticeable at first glance, but it is an important point in creating a frame that can withstand the tension of the blackout fabric.
