What I thought when I saw my umbrella turn inside out in a gust of wind
"A sudden strong wind turned my umbrella inside out, and all the ribs were broken..." I'm sure we've all had that experience at least once. The reason why standard folding umbrellas use six ribs is mainly because "lightness" is the top priority. However, in modern city streets exposed to winds from buildings and gusts, that lightness can sometimes lead to stress in the form of "instability." It would be counterproductive if a tool meant to protect against the rain were useless in an emergency. How can we balance "strength" to protect the user with "lightness" for portability? This was the starting point for the development of the VERYKAL8.
Maintaining VERYKAL's identity while increasing bone mass
The biggest challenge in development was increasing the number of ribs while maintaining a lightness that lives up to the "VERYKAL" name. Adding two parts naturally increases the weight, but this is where we poured our passion. We used a generous amount of strong carbon fiber, the same type used in aircraft, for the frame, combined with an ultra-lightweight 15-denier ripstop material for the fabric. As a result, we succeeded in achieving an amazingly light eight-rib automatic opening and closing umbrella weighing just 230g.
6% expansion in floor space and a maniacal focus on safety
It's not just about adding more ribs. By increasing the number of ribs, the umbrella's shape becomes more circular, increasing the coverage area by approximately 6% compared to the previous six-rib umbrella (with the same rib size). This slight difference provides a great sense of security by preventing your backpack or shoulders from getting wet. We've also addressed the risk of automatic umbrellas bouncing back when folded, and equipped the umbrella with a safety feature to prevent the umbrella from popping out unexpectedly. Every detail has been meticulously crafted, including a strap with reflective thread for increased visibility at night and silicone washers to prevent leaks.
