When I started living in Tokyo for work, I was surprised by the strength of the wind blowing through the buildings. In this day and age where disposable umbrellas are everywhere, we don't want our customers who choose Amvel to be disappointed when their umbrella breaks. In the first place, sending it in for repair is probably a huge hassle. So why not create an umbrella that doesn't break even when turned inside out and doesn't need to be repaired? This single-minded desire was the starting point for our development.
"Wind in the Willows" - A change in mindset that cannot be overcome by force
The structural weakness of a folding umbrella is in the joints where the moving parts are concentrated. At the beginning of development, we tried to increase the strength by using thicker materials, but this would have taken away the "lightness" that is the identity of Amvel. After a year and a half of trial and error, we arrived at the design concept of "wind in the willows." Rather than confronting strong winds, it deflects the load by flexing flexibly. By adopting polycarbonate material with excellent elasticity, the stalled development problem was quickly resolved.
