The material we arrived at in pursuit of the ideal "toughness"
Since its founding, Amvel has consistently pursued the value of being "lightweight and durable." To realize this concept at an even higher level, we turned our attention to CORDURA® Fabric. This material, which is strong enough to withstand harsh environments and is also used in military equipment and outdoor gear, perfectly matched our ideal umbrella. However, there were high technical hurdles to overcome in order to incorporate this tough fabric into a precision product such as an umbrella.
Overcoming nylon's "weaknesses" with technology
Nylon, the main material in CORDURA®, is highly hydrophobic and water-resistant, making it an excellent umbrella material. However, it has a major drawback: it is more stretchy than polyester. When the fabric stretches, it puts excessive strain on the umbrella frame and interferes with opening and closing. How can we mitigate this drawback? The answer we came up with was to bond (pressure-bond) our own light-blocking film to the back of the fabric. By integrating the light-blocking film, we were able to physically limit the stretching of the fabric, dramatically improving the stability of the umbrella.

This innovation has succeeded in adding the highest level of functionality, 100% shading and 100% UV protection, while taking advantage of the inherent toughness of CORDURA®. Taking advantage of nylon's weakness of being prone to stretching, the combination with film has transformed it into a "strong fabric that retains its shape." The long "Tough Umbrella," the highly portable "Lightweight Folding," and the large, automatic-opening "VERYKAL LARGE" umbrellas all offer all-weather specifications, protecting you from harsh sunlight and heavy rain.
