Driven by the desire for an umbrella to be smart not only when open but also when closed, we tackled the challenging problem of "easy folding."
The stress of a "thick and difficult-to-fold fabric" often associated with high-performance parasols. The solution we arrived at to alleviate this was "Speed Pleats," which imprints folds directly into the fibers themselves.
A Magical Storage Experience Thanks to Shape Memory
Many conventional "easy-to-fold umbrellas" achieve this by attaching resin panels to the back of the fabric. However, this makes the umbrella heavier and thicker when folded. What we pursued was ultimate lightness and slimness.
Speed Pleats is a technology where folds are imprinted by heat treatment into fibers with a special "core-sheath structure." The fabric thickness is only 0.13mm. Because it's a single-layer structure without panels, it maintains the umbrella's inherent flexibility, and when closed, the fabric naturally aligns along the folds.
