PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT STORY | TOUGHNESS ANTI-FLIP

It's not just "unbreakable." It's the "true strength" of a folding umbrella that "won't flip inside out*¹."

Observing people walking with umbrellas in the city, I've always felt a strong sense of discomfort.

Seeing umbrellas suddenly flip inside out due to the wind, and people awkwardly rushing to fix them. On rainy days and under the sun, it's a constant struggle with the stress of "when will it flip inside out?" every time the wind blows.

"What is true strength for a folding umbrella?" As an umbrella creator, I revisited this fundamental question.

In fact, many conventional "wind-resistant umbrellas" are designed to release wind by intentionally flipping inside out. However, what users truly want is a reliable sense of security that protects their body and belongings smartly, without losing their composure even when buffeted by the wind.

That's why I challenged myself to create "TOUGHNESS ANTI-FLIP," a unique structure that utilizes wind pressure in reverse to suppress the ribs from turning inside out. After much trial and error, we established reliable strength that "won't flip inside out" under specified test conditions.

The main body weighs approximately 350g, a deliberate choice. This is the complete opposite of the "world's lightest class" weight I had pursued until now.

However, this doesn't mean I gave up on lightness. This is an "intentional weight," meticulously calculated to withstand harsh building winds and provide an unwavering sense of security in your hand. Combined with the thick, easy-to-grip handle, it provides reassuring stability.

Finally, there's something I want to convey. Because the structure withstands wind pressure and prevents flipping, a great deal of stress is placed on the umbrella. Although it has wind resistance of up to 30m/s, please close the umbrella without hesitation on dangerously strong stormy days like typhoons. This design incorporates my own wish for your safety and for you to cherish your favorite umbrella for a long time.

What I aimed for was not merely a robust piece of gear. I want to deliver "true comfort" – the ability to always maintain your own pace and walk smartly, without having your style disrupted by the harsh urban weather.
