Product Development Story | CORDURA® fabric Series

To the ultimate in lightness and durability. The chemical reaction brought about by CORDURA® and HEATBLOCK.
The material we arrived at in pursuit of ideal "toughness"
Since its establishment, Amvel has consistently pursued the value of "lightness and durability." To realize this concept at an even higher level, we focused on CORDURA® fabric. With strength to withstand harsh environments and used in outdoor gear, this material perfectly matched the ideal umbrella we envisioned. However, incorporating this fabric into an umbrella product presented significant challenges.
Overcoming nylon's "weakness" with technology
Nylon, the main material of CORDURA®, possesses excellent properties for an umbrella, such as high hydrophobicity and water resistance. On the other hand, it had a major drawback: it was "prone to stretching." If the fabric stretches and shrinks, it can interfere with the opening and closing mechanism. How could we minimize this disadvantage? Our solution was to bond a unique light-blocking film to the back of the fabric. By integrating the light-blocking film, we physically suppressed the fabric's stretching and dramatically improved the umbrella's stability.
The ultimate toughness, imbued with light and heat shielding
This ingenious solution allowed us to leverage the inherent toughness of CORDURA® while adding the highest level of functionality: 100% light blocking and 100% UV protection. We took advantage of nylon's weakness of being prone to stretching and elevated it into a "tough, shape-retaining fabric" through its combination with the film.
A single umbrella that supports you from daily life to adventures
"Reliability as a tool" is the sincerity of our craftsmanship. This CORDURA® series was developed not just as a simple rain or sun umbrella, but as a "tough gear" to support your lifestyle. We want you to use it without hesitation in any situation, from your daily commute to weekend outdoor activities.
