New color gray added to the CORDURA ultra-lightweight, 100% light-blocking umbrella.
We wanted to change the common perception that umbrellas are disposable items. This desire led to the creation of our all-weather folding umbrella, featuring CORDURA® fabric.
Folding umbrellas, rubbing against other items at the bottom of a bag, are subjected to more stress than one might imagine. Therefore, we adopted CORDURA® fabric, a highly durable nylon trusted in military and outdoor gear. In addition to its overwhelming toughness, having passed 20,000 abrasion tests, our unique bonding technology, which presses a light-blocking film onto the back, has resulted in a strong fabric that is thin, lightweight, and resistant to losing its shape.
Furthermore, we selected carbon fiber for the frame, which combines lightness and elasticity. This allowed us to achieve a structure that is light enough to forget you're carrying it, yet durable enough to withstand winds of 15 m/s.
Changes in the times and color trends
When we first planned this product, we actually hadn't anticipated that Japanese summers would become as extremely hot as they are now, or that the intensity of the sunlight would become so severe. The underlying concept was "an all-around tool that can be used toughly in all environments, whether rainy or sunny."
Therefore, the initial color lineup started with four colors: black, navy, coyote, and olive, which blend in from commuting to outdoor activities. Later, we removed olive for overall balance and continued with three colors, but with environmental changes, we have noticed that customers' demands for umbrellas have also gradually changed.
The birth of a new color, gray, in harmony with the sunlight
This time, "gray" has been added as a new option. This color was born from the voices of many people who wanted to use it daily as a parasol.
"I want to use it as a parasol in midsummer, but black and navy feel a bit visually heavy." "Coyote is nice, but it might be a bit too outdoorsy for urban commuting style."
To meet such delicate requests, we derived an exquisite shade of gray that gently harmonizes with both urban landscapes and harsh sunlight. While boasting the highest functionality of 100% light blocking and heat shielding, its appearance is remarkably light and refined.
