At just 13cm, smaller than a smartphone, this bag aims to eliminate the "luggage stress" of travel.
Why do I always have trouble packing for a trip with an umbrella?
Have you ever been packing for a trip or business trip, and then sighed as you tried to fit your umbrella into the gaps in your luggage, which you'd assembled perfectly like a puzzle? Being prepared for sudden rain is essential, but traditional folding umbrellas take up a surprising amount of space in your bag, and their weight is not negligible. Having spent over 30 years researching umbrella structure and materials, I felt it was an unavoidable mission for me to solve this "travel packing problem" in order to make modern travel more comfortable.
A groundbreaking "7-layer structure" and an obsession with "ultra-thin fabric"
My goal was to create an incredibly compact umbrella with a total length of just 13cm, comparable to the size of a smartphone when placed next to it. However, simply making it smaller is easy. The problem was how to balance a practical size with durability. So I decided to use a seven-section shaft, which is extremely rare even in the umbrella industry.
The multi-tiered structure shortens the length when stored, but improper design can lead to rattle and reduced strength. I made repeated adjustments down to the millimeter, placing aluminum and steel in the right places to create a strong frame that can withstand winds of up to 15 m/s. Furthermore, to reduce the thickness when folded, I used a thin, soft fabric woven with the same ultra-fine 15 denier thread used in stockings. The combination of this thinness and multi-tiered structure is the key to achieving the amazing size of 13 cm.
Not just light, but also "strength as a tool" recognized by professionals
While pursuing high specs, one thing I was never willing to compromise on was the "security of the tool." The FLATLITE Travel is light, weighing just 185g, yet with a diameter of 91cm when unfolded, it is large enough to withstand sudden rain.
There's nothing more troublesome than dealing with a wet umbrella when traveling. That's why we've applied a powerful, long-lasting water-repellent finish called "Easy-Dry." A simple shake will remove most of the water, so you can quickly put it in your bag without worrying about getting the surrounding area wet. This technology, which maintains its water-repellent properties even after 20 washes, is my commitment to ensuring that you can use it for a long time.
An umbrella should be a tool that sets you free
Let's put an end to the days when carrying an umbrella meant adding more to your luggage. By keeping FLATLITE Travel in the corner of your bag or in your pocket, you'll be freed from worrying about rain and be able to focus more on your travel plans and the scenery in front of you.
We've put our heart and soul into even the smallest details, such as using Oeko-Tex certified fabric that is kind not only to the user but also to the environment. As the developer, we sincerely hope that this small umbrella will be your ultimate companion, making your travels lighter and more reassuring.
